Closing the Doors of Cafecito Bonito: A Community Goodbye

Donazione protetta
After three remarkable years, Cafecito Bonito is closing its doors, leaving behind a legacy of community, creativity, and connection. During this time, we've built countless relationships, advocated for important causes, and celebrated the rich diversity of our community. Our café became a beloved home for many, offering a space where people could gather, express themselves, and engage in civic activities. From showcasing local artists, musicians, drag queens, and community activists to hosting over 300 shows featuring talents from across the country and even from abroad, Cafecito Bonito was more than just a café—it was a vibrant cultural hub.
The recognition we've received from non-profits, community partners, state representatives, and, most importantly, our friends and patrons, is a testament to the impact we've made. We are deeply grateful for the support and love that have fueled us throughout these years. Although this chapter is closing, the memories and connections we've created will continue to inspire and resonate within the community. Cafecito Bonito will always be remembered as a place where art, activism, and community flourished together.

Cafecito Bonito will not be available for sale or relocation, as our landlord has other plans for the current location. To help cover remaining costs, moving expenses, and compensation, we have set up a GoFundMe campaign. We greatly appreciate any support as we navigate this transition.
“Owning Cafecito Bonito at the tender age of 22 was nothing short of a wild roller coaster ride—complete with loop-de-loops of long hours, learning curves sharper than any espresso shot, and sleepless nights that made me question if I was part vampire. There was literal blood, sweat, and tears (and let me tell you, spilling hot coffee on yourself at 3 a.m. is a character-building experience). But through all the chaos, the memories we made were like a rich, perfectly brewed cup of coffee—beautiful and deeply satisfying.
I got to create a space where I witnessed my neighbors and friends grow—sometimes quite literally, as we hosted their baby showers, weddings, and birthdays. Watching them hit life’s milestones was like getting front-row seats to the best show in town. Personally, I might not have been the best businesswoman (numbers? Not my thing), but I knew how to show up for my community. I saw what was missing, and I was there with open arms, a warm cup of coffee, and a welcoming space. I never imagined my little café would become such a cornerstone for Anchorage and the queer community; I just knew I loved coffee and wanted to share that passion. Seeing Cafecito bloom into what it became was nothing short of magical.
As I prepare to turn the page to the next chapter of my life, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. The people I’ve met, the connections we’ve made, and the love and support that have surrounded Cafecito Bonito are beyond anything I could have dreamed of. Anchorage, you’re amazing—keep building those safe spaces, keep advocating for each other, and keep nurturing the incredible community we’ve all worked so hard to create. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that when people come together, even the wildest rides are worth every twist and turn. I can’t wait to see you all at one final fiesta.”
