Clonmel Scout Hall Refurbishment

Donation protected
I am appealing for your assistance on behalf of the Clonmel Scout Group.

The Scout Hall on Sarsfield Street, Clonmel is currently closed as it requires essential capital works.  It is in very poor repair and is undergoing full rewiring, fire-proofing and energy efficiency upgrades. We have secured several capital grants but are left with a significant shortfall.

We have targeted a figure of €100,000 to fundraise for this project and will be relying on the goodwill and generosity of parents, business owners and the community at large to meet this target.  This work is vital to ensure the health and safety of the children in the building and to bring it up to modern standards (wi-fi, LCD projector, kitchen facilities, bathrooms etc).

This is our first major fundraising drive in over 30 years and we hope that you may be able to help us by donating to our GoFundMe page or our dedicated fundraising bank account (BIC AIBKIE2D, IBAN IE70AIBK93537904787305) or by holding a fundraising event for us.  We would welcome the opportunity to acknowledge your support through print and digital media if you so wish.

While we are addressing the needs of Clonmel Scout Group we also hope to expand the uses of our hall to include other local voluntary and community groups as well as national and international scouting groups.

Thank you for your consideration and support,

John Casey

Clonmel Scout Group: A Brief History

The Clonmel Scout Group has been in existence since 1929. Following a short break in response to “the emergency” during the war years, when Scout Leaders around the country formed part of the Local Defence Forces, the Clonmel Scout Group reformed in 1959 and in 1962 the first annual two-week camp for Clonmel Scouts took place in Stradbally, Co. Waterford. Since then we have undertaken 57 consecutive annual two-week camps; the highlight of the year for many Clonmel children for generations.

Currently, we have seven sections of Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venture Scouts meeting on four nights of the week. In addition to our weekly meetings and annual camp there are various hikes, competitions and camping weekends throughout the year. We are very active in our local community providing voluntary works for many different events such as the Clonmel Busking festival. Young boys and girls are facilitated by volunteer Leaders from the community and together we number approximately 250 members. Scouts is a formal education programme with a focus on learning by doing with the outdoors as our classroom and indeed is a diversionary activity for many young people in our town.
