Hello
The Victorian clock face is in urgent need of repair. It is located high on the East face of St Thomas a Beckett Church Tower, a medieval 13th Century tower. The painted wooden lozenge frame is badly decayed and loosely secured by rusting iron cramps. The face, dial, hands and Roman numerals are barely readable and need regilding. The date 1893 also appears but very faint. We think it is a copper plate, painted blue with gold details.
The beautiful clock mechanism is housed inside the tower and fully functioning, striking every hour. It is regularly serviced and has highlighted these external problems. The magnificent church tower is a great focal point of the village and community, next to the viaduct and the River Chew, with many tourists stopping by too. We aim to remove and refix the clock face via rope access, repair the frame and face to the high standard it deserves. The base of the Tower is open to visitors every day, with Tower tours annually. Feel free to visit, and please help us. If you would like further information, please get in touch. Thank you for reading.
