The Cliona foundation provides financial support nationwide to families of seriously sick children to help with the non-medical "hidden costs" of caring for their child & enabling them to be by their bedside. These costs can include but are not limited to accommodation, travel, car parking, food, specialist equipment, childcare etc. It is estimated that it costs an additional 10,000 p.a to care for a sick child and for many of these families one of the parents has to leave work so now operating on a reduced income.
