Our beautiful boy, Clint James Gidney, has been diagnosed with a very rare viral infection known as Acute Flaccid Myelitis. This illness is so rare that the CDC estimates that less than one to two in a million children per year will be affected. It started as two separate common virus' known as rhinovirus and enterovirus. As his body struggled to fight the illnesses, his immune system began attacking his spinal column. Within a few days, he went from a vibrant, intelligent, playful, happy and loving young boy to being fatigued, lethargic, unable to hold his head up or fully operate his arms, unable to walk upright and, ultimately, unable to control his breathing function.
Clint was four days away from his 6th birthday (5/10/19) when he was admitted to the hospital. He is under the care of the amazing guardian angels at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.
Clint is the youngest of his three older siblings and is extremely beloved and adored by his sisters Cora (9) and Kayla (17), brother Logan (13) and his parents Rick and Chrissi. Clint's nickname is "Mr.Man" because he is very mature for his age; polite and well-mannered, caring, loving and helpful. He loves to play video games, explore, learn, help daddy work on projects, run, climb and play outside. His favorite video games are Fortnite, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and 4, God of War on PS4 and Minecraft. Clint's ABSOLUTE FAVORITE YouTuber is "JackSepticEye". He admires Jack because he is funny, positive, happy and energetic. Clint got his haircut like Jack and began recording his own "ClintSepticEye" videos on his mom's cellphone for fun shortly before he fell ill.
The doctors have informed us that this illness is one that will require physical therapy and support in order for Clint to regain his motor functions. These cases are so rare that there is no presumed outcome of how long it will take to see improvement. We are taking this day-by-day and Clint has remained strong through it all, but we do have a long road ahead of us.
This traumatic life-changing event that Clint and his family are going through has renewed our faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father has worked his miracles, saving Clint's young life, and placing him in a facility that is one of the best in the country for pediatric care. We are so grateful that God has blessed us with this amazing and beautiful boy and has given us the strength to push through this time and trial. We believe that our Lord will use this challenge that Clint and his family are facing to deliver him a full recovery and show others the miracles of our Savior and his everlasting love and mercy. We are asking for prayers of strength, healing, love and recovery for Mr. Man.
God bless you and we thank you for your kindness, prayers and support.
