In February i was raising £1,500 for a community project.
This is my story below. In March 2025 we were invited back to Colchester Arts Centre to perform snowy joy again. So here we are with 3 new original songs and a more experience cast ( 1 year older) . Please help us reach our new target to fund our musicians and our expenses to travel to Colchester as well as fabric for costumes.
This year we have the exciting addition of a BSL sign language interpreter -Lucy Boyce who has generously volunteered her time. We are very grateful to all the help we are receiving from the theatre and also from our team and community in London.
Snowy Joy is a winter themed story of refuge and kindness, written my friend and author Sade Fadipe.
After working with Sade to help her develop her skills in order to be able to tell her own stories she invited to me to 'tell part of her Snowy Joy story for a radio drama.' We had a brainwave to adapt the story of Snowy Joy for the stage!
Three years later, and after two low key events in Buchan Hall TRA in Nunhead, London with children from Mary Magdalene and Dog Kennel Hill Primary Schools, we are putting on our stage play in the Colchester Arts Centre on Wed 19th February!!! We longed to work with the children in the Colchester/Chelmsford Community, where Sade is based, but we had made few connections with local schools. With my upcoming trek to Nepal it seemed a good opportunity to raise funds for the show. I would literally be climbing snowy heights to raise money for Snowy Joy.
I completed my trek, submitting 2 peaks above 6000m during the month of October. It was after this , in December 2024 that we heard the wonderful news that Colchester Arts Centre would allow us to use their theatre.
We were thrilled and excited. Through the organisations called ReBreath and Community 360 we found a keen group of children in Colchester. The project was launched...
"Climbing Snowy Heights for Snowy Joy."
Now I am reliving the expedition of October 24 in order to muster up courage, focus and determination. Putting on a show in a professional theatre is much like climbing a mountain; it can be demanding and scary at times. Once you commit , there is no going back!!!! Here we are with less than two weeks to go and with no funding behind us; we need a little bit of help.
Colchester Arts Centre have given us the theatre space and all ticket sales cover their costs. All our teaching time is donated . We need help to cover the following costs:
Poster design and fliers £250
Script printing £120
Costume fabrics £100
Refreshments £100
Travel expenses from London and Chelmsford £390
Chaperone fees £240
Treats for the children £200
Miscellaneous - Hot meals for the children during workshop days, additional support from specialists in drama and music, additional resources fro props, film making, recording, photography...
Every little helps and we are grateful.
