The Karakoram Alpine Club is proud to announce a bold and historic mission: our first-ever mountaineering expedition to Nanga Parbat (8,126m) – the world's ninth-highest peak – attempted from our home in Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan.

This isn't just a climb. It's a statement. A mission. A dream long in the making.

Why This Matters

For decades, international climbers have come to Pakistan to scale our majestic peaks — often supported by local porters and guides' unmatched strength, endurance, and expertise. But despite their critical role, local alpine clubs and climbers have rarely been allowed to lead their high-altitude expeditions. Why? A lack of funding, limited access to technical gear, and almost no international exposure.

There isn’t a single internationally certified mountain guide in Pakistan. For most young people in the mountains, becoming a high-altitude porter is the only path into the world of climbing — one that pays just $30 a day for carrying heavy loads and risking their lives on some of the world’s deadliest peaks.

We aim to change that

The Karakoram Alpine Club is made up of passionate, skilled, and experienced young mountaineers from Hunza who have trained on the rugged spires and unforgiving faces of the Karakoram. This upcoming expedition to Nanga Parbat is more than a personal challenge — it’s a call to reclaim our space in these mountains, to lead, to grow, and to inspire.

It’s a step toward empowering local climbers to take ownership of their craft, to train the next generation, and to reconnect our people with the very mountains that shaped us.

What We Need

This expedition requires significant logistical support. We're fundraising to cover:

Technical mountaineering gear (boots, ropes, crampons, tents, etc.)

Satellite communication & safety systems

Permits and liaison officer fees

Rescue helicopter for any emergency

Porters and base camp support

Transportation & food for a 4-week expedition

Documentary production to share this story with the world
