Fellow CPers - As we all know, our local businesses and our neighbors are hurting, but sometimes it is hard to know what to do. How can I make a difference?
This idea came to me in April 2020 when 10 Rodman Street neighbors chipped in to buy a $450 gift card from Pete's BBQ and we gave it to the guys at the fire station. It was a win-win-win. Pete's got the money, the firemen got a great meal and didn't have to cook, and we felt good doing it. A triple whammy! Let's recreate this on a larger scale.
The money we raise here will be split equally between Connecticut Ave Cleveland Park /DC restaurants. We will buy gift cards or similar from these restaurants and then give those gift cards to:
The Cleveland Park Fire Station
The Police Station
The Brooks shelter
Ward 3 Mutual Aid
Feed the Fridge (the brainchild of Medium Rare's Mark Bucher).
Folks at these locations can redeem the gift cards whenever is convenient for them. We are supporting our local restaurants as well as supporting our first responders and those most in need. It's the gift that keeps on giving!
Let's make Cleveland Park not only the best neighborhood to live in, but the most generous neighborhood in DC! Let's pool our resources and give to those in our community who could really use some hope and support. I am setting February 14th as our first deadline to raise $10,000. That is a lofty goal and that is a lot of money, but wouldn't it be amazing if we raise that much and invest that much in our own community?! I know we can do it.
Let's spread the love. Give big or give small. Please give now. :-)
