Growing up in Olmekenyu, water was always a daily struggle. I still remember waking up at 3 a.m. as a young pupil, walking in the dark with a jerrican to the small streams. If we delayed, the water would run out after other villagers fetched theirs. Even then, the water was never safe, but it was all we had.
Today, the people of Olmekenyu in Ololulung’a Constituency, Narok County, still face the same challenge. Families walk more than 3 kilometers to fetch water. You can either make the long, exhausting trip yourself for free—or wait for others who go fetch it and sell at Ksh 20 per 20-liter jerrican. Many families cannot afford this daily expense, yet walking for hours with donkeys or carrying heavy containers on heads and backs takes away time for school, work, and rest.
Even our Olmekenyu Health Centre struggles. The water stored for patients often comes from iron-sheet catchments, unsafe for drinking, cleaning, or treatment. Imagine a hospital meant to save lives, yet forced to use unsafe water—it is heartbreaking.
The weight of this burden is heavy. Mothers rise before dawn, children miss school, and the sick suffer more than they should, all because clean water is out of reach.
My dream is to change this story—to bring clean, safe, and accessible water to Olmekenyu. With your support through this crowd funding, we can build a lasting solution that restores health, saves time, and gives dignity. Clean water will mean fewer illnesses, better education for our children, and a stronger, healthier community.
This dream is not just mine—it belongs to every family in Olmekenyu.
