HELP, CLEAN WASHROOMS FOR KIBERA, NAIROBI
Donation protected
Help us build a safe and clean washroom hub in Kibera, providing toilets and showers for over 200 people every day. Every donation makes a real difference.
My name is Marlien, and I’m currently working in Nairobi, Kenya as an international volunteer with VSO on the Waste to Work project. In addition to this, I’m supporting the creation of a hygiene hub in Kibera, one of the largest informal settlements in Africa, home to over 2 million people.
During my time in Kibera, I quickly realized how challenging basic hygiene is. Things we often take for granted, like going to the toilet, washing hands, or having access to clean water, are simply not available to many people here.
For women and girls especially, this lack of hygiene facilities becomes even more difficult during menstruation, pregnancy, or when dealing with infections. Basic sanitation isn’t just about cleanliness, it’s about health, dignity, and safety.
Together with my local friends and colleagues, Salim and Stephen, two incredible environmental activists working to transform their community, we are now building our third hygiene hub. The first two hubs already serve more than 600 people daily. But with over 2 million residents, it’s just a drop in the ocean. Many people still rely on the river for bathing and waste disposal due to the lack of facilities and water access.
This third washroom hub will be built from scratch on a former dumping site, which is already being transformed into a safe play area for children. The new hygiene hub will include 4 toilets and 3 showers, and will serve over 200 people daily. It will
This project will help reduce sanitation-related diseases, create 4 jobs, prioritize safety for women and girls, and become 50% self-sustaining within a year through a small user fee.
But we can’t do it alone. That’s why we need your support.
Whether it’s a small donation or a larger contribution, every bit helps.
Your support will go directly to construction costs. If we exceed our goal, any additional funds will go toward maintenance and possibly starting a fourth hygiene hub in the future.
Let’s bring dignity, safety, and hygiene to more people in Kibera.
Donate now and be part of this real, local impact.
Asante sana, thank you so much!
