I live on the North shore of Hawaii Island. This beach collects all the plastic trash (90% of which is from the commercial fishing industry) that hits the windward coast of Hawaii Island. I've spent over $3500.00 on equipment to haul trash off this beach and for maintenance of my vehicle and equipment. I don't get paid for my time to do this. Friends help me with the more remote spots, they don't get paid either. These bundles of net contain dozens of different nets that have been floating in the ocean for decades, killing and killing. Every time you see a video of someone saving a whale from choking to death on the news, there are dozens of others who died unseen. Dolphins, turtles, and thousands of other marine organisms die everyday from marine flotsam and jetsam. Every net I collect could have been the net that killed a beautiful ocean being.
