The organization I will be traveling

My name is Claudia Tappe and I am fundraising for my trip to Laos and Thailand this upcoming summer. Last summer, I went to Nicaragua to learn as a volunteer how to do sustainable work for two weeks. GIVE stands for Growth International Volunteer Excursions, and they are dedicated to empowering local communities and awakening their volunteers around the world (they currently have volunteer locations in Tanzania, Laos, Thailand, and Nicaragua). While traveling throughout Nicaragua, I was able to explore the most incredible places and make discoveries that will last a lifetime. I assisted in building homes for young single-mothers who are being displaced by climate change as they watch their homes wash away into the ocean, and I also had the opportunity to teach english to children living in two of small communities throughout the country (in Little Corn Island and Jiquilillo). My experience in Nicaragua has truly changed my life and GIVE has taught me what it means to become actively engaged as a global citizen in today's world. They have provided me with life-long tools that I am now able to use in my every day life. It is my passion to travel and help to create a more sustainable world for future generations.
I've chosen GIVE because they are passionate about creating authentic, transformative opportunities for volunteers to help build critical infrastructure in developing nations, immerse themselves in other cultures while reflecting on their own ability to empower marginalized communities, and ultimately become leaders in sustainable development. GIVE lives by their mission statement which is to "inspire growth, empower global citizens, and ignite sustainable change worldwide." They stand by their mission with their method in which they do development work, by using Asset Based Community development. They recognize the importance of leveraging the existing strenghts of these communities, and working to empower them so that eventually they are able to lift themselves up. GIVE strongly believes in a development approach that enables communities to utilize the recourses already in place, so that when GIVE leaves they will be succesfull entirely their own.
The reason I am fundraising is so that I can travel to Thailand and Laos to not only learn about these two unique cultures, but to assist in building water tanks in two specific areas in each region. Essentially, I will be traveling from Chiang Mai, Thailand all way to Luang Prabang, Laos and will have the chance to see the rolling mountains, monks, remote villages, temples, endangered animals and majestic rivers throughout this region of the world. The trip will last for 4 weeks as I will be crossing the borders of these two countries for a much broader experience. I plan to see more of Southeast Asia and immerse myself in each country's beautiful culture. As an Environmental Studies major, I hope to ultimately become a leader in the world of sustainable development and I fundamentally believe that by traveling to these two countries, I will be one step closer in achieving my goal.
Some of the project work will focus on improving the lives of many of the endangered animals that inhabit these regions and protecting them from the dangers of poaching while also supporting rural communities with Education and Eco-Friendly Infrastructure projects.
The money will be used toward purchasing my plane ticket as well as other transportation that is required for my trip. The total cost of the trip amounts to $4,190 plus the cost of the plane ticket. Ideally, I will need the funds by the beginning of April. This trip means so much to me because my experience in Nicaragua last summer was incredibly life changing as I was able to make life-long friends and understand why sustainability is so essential in our world today. Traveling has opened my eyes to what is really important and is the best education I've ever had.
I would like to thank everyone in advance for your donation as it means the world to me. I need your help so that I can experience a GIVE trip again, so please assist in any way that you can, no donation is too little!
