Help a Refugee Family with Rent
Kassin and Manal's family of five is from Daraa, where the Syrian Civil War began years ago. They fled to Jordan where the living conditions were unbearable as hostility rose amongst Jordanians towards the massive influx of Syrian refugees. Their son was brutally bullied while in Jordan.
They now live in Clarkston, Georgia and are on the path to becoming American citizens. Kassin, a former truck driver, is training and working as a mechanic. His monthly wages are not enough to cover rent and utilities for their two bedroom apartment. We are trying to help him find a new job where he can make a living wage, but in the meantime we have started this GoFundMe to help pay rent.
My name is Amanda Marks and I'm a part of a group of friendship families supporting Kassin and Manal's family as a cousin would, if you moved to their town starting anew.
We are their village now. We are their family. Let's help them together. In the words of Clarkston Mayor Ted Terry "This isn't a charity thing, it's a rescue."

If you would like to make other types of donations or have a job opportunity for Kassin, please leave a comment and I will follow up with you. Specific needs: English classes, non-food kitchen and household items (dishwashing soap, detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, feminine products).
Additional Background on this GoFundMe:
We are community of volunteers who have connected with this refugee family to help them assimilate to life in the US. We communicate with them in person and via text. I am the “Team Coordinator’ and take lead on all initiatives for this family including running this campaign, finding a higher paying job for Kassin, and keeping in contact with the family about any needs or questions.
The funds raised from this GoFundMe will be used to pay for Kassin and Manal’s monthly rent for their two bedroom apartment. Their rent is $1100 a month and we will be covering $5,000 worth of rent for the year, if we are able to raise those funds.
The funds will be withdrawn and sent directly to the apartment complex to pay for their rent on their behalf.
