It all began 11 years ago
Clara’s story starts 11 years ago, when Jason and I started trying to have more children. I’m not sure if you know, but Jason and I don’t have any biological children together. Jason legally adopted Blake and I Destiny. After years of infertility and a recent miscarriage, we found ourselves asking God what His plan was for us.
We asked, and God answered
On Sunday, April 15, a friend told me about a 2 1/2-month-old baby girl who needed a forever home. I said we were interested but wanted to pray about it. The timing was challenging, because Jason was leaving early the next day to work a week in Illinois. While Jason was en route to Illinois, my friend called me again to impress upon me the immediate need for this sweet baby girl. I agreed to meet with her that night, and we haven’t looked back.
From God’s arms to ours
The moment I held little Clara, I felt God’s peace. I told my friend Clara could stay with us. If this were God’s plan, it would work out. I FaceTimed Jason as his mind reeled from what God was doing in our lives. A few close friends and family provided everything I needed for that first night: a Pack ’n play, diapers, wipes and bottles. The next day brought more donations: clothes, a stroller, a car seat and formula. Wednesday brought even more support from family and friends including childcare. Friends then helped turn my spare room into a nursery. We had already become an instant family.The recipe for an instant family: Add love and stir
Jason finally arrived home Friday night. Like me, he immediately fell in love with Clara, and we started looking for an adoption attorney. Her birth mother, a recovering addict, agreed to sign the papers but then, like many addicts, disappeared. This presents a new issue of abandonment and adoption as we continue searching for her. Meanwhile, we proceed with adoption plans.
Our initial home study visit took place Monday, April 23. Everything is going according to God’s plan, and we cannot wait to make Clara a part of our family. Become part of our story.
We are looking to create a community of friends, family and neighbors, locally and globally, to help us welcome Clara into our lives as our daughter. First, we covet your prayers as we take our next steps. Second, we’re asking you to consider donating toward our adoption expenses. In our hearts, Clara is already part of our family, but it will cost money to make her an official Conkling.
