Friends and family,
It's a strange time to be celebrating a birthday - I'm missing my family, and so many close friends and loved ones who are far away. I'm riding the waves of emotions running through my mind and soul, reading the news only when necessary, and worrying about all of humanity (as expected of an extreme empath).
But, in this time, I've found reason to celebrate. If you've been in touch with me in the last few weeks, you know I've been spending my time focusing on the moments of joy, laughter, music for the soul, radical generosity, and overwhelming kindness being shared and recorded worldwide. This serves both as a distraction, but also as a method of healing . There is goodness. There will continue to be goodness. And I believe, that our good acts will be what saves us and makes us whole again.
As we've all been witness to, especially over these last few weeks, one of the purely good things happening right now is the selflessness of medical providers who are risking there lives every day only to help those suffering. Some in their old age, some with babies at home, and some who came out of retirement for this pandemic.
My own two incredibly brave, beautifully kindhearted parents are both physicians, and in the past few weeks I have watched them mask their fears, literally put on masks, and go to work.
So, in honor of my 24th birthday this Saturday, I've created this fundraiser to raise money for Direct Relief, an organization providing much needed medical supplies, building equipment, and more (more details below).
I wish I was with you, that we could hug and dance and laugh and celebrate together. Please donate instead. I will consider every dollar to be a birthday hug or a cupcake. I also pledge to match the first $500 of donations.
Much love,
Rachel
