12/17/20 update:
- a new hire was added to City Pub staff since the summer and will now be added to the distribution group for future donations.
- City Pub will be closed (no take-out) during the next few weeks due to the new regional Shelter in Place order
Dear friends and neighbors,
We are continuing our campaign to support City Pub staff (bussing, kitchen, and wait staff) during this difficult time. As you may know, City Pub staff, many of whom depend on tips to meet basic expenses like housing, utilities, and groceries, have been underemployed or unemployed since the beginning of COVID shelter in place orders.
Katy McCormack (pre-2019 City Pub employee) and Jan Habarth (friend and patron) have teamed up to get the word out to the community about this important issue and to raise funds for City Pub staff who have worked at the Pub during the time of COVID.
We reached out to City Pub staff and owner Paul Dazey about the average number of hours per week that everyone was working before shelter in place. There are 19 affected staff, and they are moved and grateful about our plan. Staff who did not need the funds have declined, making it possible for us to help those who most need support during this challenging time. Our plan is to gather and distribute funds raised on a rolling basis. Every 30 days, or sooner if funds raised during that time period exceed $7200, we will initiate distribution of all funds collected to date and keep the fundraiser rolling over the coming months. In the interest of balancing fairness with simple process, our plan is to distribute funds according to number of hours worked in the first COVID-affected quarter of employment at City Pub.
The fine print: Here's our plan for the distribution and some examples of how the distribution math is working. Based on schedule information provided by City Pub (thank you, Paul!), we distribute funds in three tiers - those working 30 or more hrs/wk, those working between 20-30 hrs/wk, and those working fewer than 20 hrs/week, on average, during the first quarter of COVID-affected employment. We distribute the total funds according to a 3:2:1 weighted ratio. For example - if we raise $7200, then the per-person distribution amounts would be $600, $400, or $200, depending on the average number of hours worked per week. And if we raise $10800 , then the amount distributed per person would be $900, $600, or $300 according to the person's average number of hours worked.
As the fundraising campaign progresses, we will update to the best of our ability with information about amounts distributed (we won't name names - but we will share on this page the number of people supported with donations and the total amount distributed). We also welcome your sharing photos, memories, and hopes for City Pub - look for the prompt to share comments and photos when you donate!
Any donation - large or small - is welcome! Even if it's just what you would have spent on a meal or a drink - we welcome your contributions!
THANK YOU for being part of this effort! Please share widely with anyone you think might consider donating, and please feel free to come back on a regular basis to continue sharing what you can to help keep our community strong, connected, and ready for post-COVID recovery.
With thanks for your care, and hope to see you soon!
