STOP Belville Poole Rd APTS! HELP Waterford NOW!
Donation protected
Our newly formed group, “Citizens for a Better Waterford”, has been diligently working
non-stop on the proposed Belville/Poole Road apartment complex issue.
We have been busy contacting North Carolina Wetlands experts, The
Alliance for Cape Fear Trees and Headwaters Environmental Agency.
It is simply a crime to destroy more of our wetlands, cut down over 460 trees
(some specimen and heritage trees) all for the sake of one developer’s pocketbook
and with complete disregard for all the Waterford residents who live next to this
project. We have been gathering Real Estate comparative studies and traffic
analogies concerning the Leland area.

We MUST FIGHT AGAINST the following pending issues:
MASSIVE TRAFFIC IMPACTS... will worsen the already existing traffic situation in the
area. This in turn increases the risk to pedestrians and cyclists in our area along with
inhibiting emergency vehicles from reaching Waterford residents quickly.
MASSIVE FOOT TRAFFIC... the apartment complex is not providing ample open space
for the influx of 1000+ people. This will result in an INVASION of our privacy, amenities,
streets, walkways, canals and lake. Our SECURITY and SAFETY will be in jeopardy.
PROPERTY VALUES LOSSES…for all homeowners, but especially for those who are
within close proximity to the proposed apartment complex.
For the very reasons many of us initially chose to move to "Waterford of the Carolinas"
will become non-existent within a few years. Once these seventeen, 40ft high buildings
with 408 apartments are built, some as close as 17ft away from our Waterford homes,
will NOT go away. These ISSUES will become PERMANENT… CHANGING
WATERFORD FOREVER unless WE ACT NOW!
We have an excellent opportunity to thwart this Belville/Poole Road
apartment complex project but we need your HELP immediately to move
forward with legal representation.
With only having a few days left under the thirty-day deadline, an appeal
against the Belville Approved Permit needs to be filed as soon as possible.
Our goal is to file an appeal in Superior Court to overturn the Town of Belville’s
approving the special use permit for the developer. However, there is a February 4th
time limit to file an appeal. The attorney needs time, at least a minimum of a week prior, to
gather information needed for the appeal.
The attorney's retainer fees are $5K with additional fees for
hearings possibly costing in the range of $12K to $17K. We will need
his retainer fees immediately in preparation for the appeal. We have
thirty days to file an appeal once the developer receives the written
approval of permit from the Town of Belville, we estimate the date of Jan
6th. The appeal needs to be filed by Feb 4th.

We are asking for your HELP! We need the financial support from ALL Waterford neighbors
ASAP. Please keep in mind that we ALL are going to be negatively affected by the
Belville/Poole Road apartment complex.
