Ciara’s Volunteer Trip to Kenya 2025

Hi there,

My name is Ciara Costello. In February 2025 a group of us will be volunteering for 2 weeks in a girls rescue centre run by Kildare based Cara Projects in Ngong in Kenya.

Last year I had the privilege to go on the January 2024 Volunteer Trip and it was such an incredible experience.

Through building houses, going to church, painting playschools and spending time with the girls, we really felt we made a difference in these girls lives.

During my time there I developed relationships with girls of all different ages, from the teenagers to the newborn babies and I’ve made lifelong connections which will stay with me forever.

Each of us volunteers need to raise at least €2,500. All funds raised will be used to cover the cost to house one girl for one year, empowering her through vocational training, health promotion, education, gender equality, economic empowerment and sustainable development.

It has been proven that providing education to girls in marginalized areas helps reduce the number of child marriages and crisis early pregnancies amongst other issues and improves the overall socio-economic circumstances for these girls.

During our time there, we will carry out maintenance at the centre - including painting, repairs and improvements, along with helping the girls with their school work like computer skills, problem solving skills etc.

Our over-all objective is that the money raised & our time will help these girls become independent and be able to support themselves in the future!
