Hey yall! My name is Najee Strickland the creator and writer for Chronicles of the Black Fist. As a multidisciplinary artist, I am inspired by the ever-changing universe around me. This piece is just one part of my interpretation of the black experience on this planet.
This new guardian of Bluffington, Tennessee must uncover the truth about a crime wave(intended to frame and oppress the poorest citizens) while protecting his family and coping with a secret that threatens to jeopardize everything before he can ever make a difference!
Can King save the city without losing himself?
"JUST ANOTHER DAY IN BLUFFINGTON, TENNESSEE."
James ‘King’ Davis does his best and try to live up to the standards of his family, he didn’t want much. The absence of his father and him seeing his mother work hard helped him create a world he wanted to see, his art was his refuge.
Growing up, trouble always seemed to find King. It was the last straw after Kings mother, Georgina, got him out of Bluff City Juvenile Detention Center for a misdemeanor. He promised his mother he would clean up his act, but this does not happen overnight. A serious conversation with his mom lead him into his introverted ways which resulted into him picking up the sketch pad and pencil. Going to school not saying anything and drawing would help, so he thought. It did nothing but draw more attention to him which lead to fights and disorderly misconduct.
Finishing high school and going to college was a goal he wanted to reach for himself. After not being accepted into several colleges and universities for conduct, King finally got accepted into Bluff City College of Art and received his bachelors in illustration. Work was hard to find in his field so he gravitated to the Bluff City Fire Academy after seeing a job opening online. After being on Bluff City Fire for some time King seen the job and society for what it really was and decided to take matters into his own hands.
The Chronicles of Black Fist story begins when I decided to apply and join the Memphis Fire Department in 2015. I retired after five years and six months. While on the job I got the inspiration for a character with acted for justice and equity for the people that are less fortunate and that look like him. A political thriller jammed packed with history, police brutality, violation of human rights, events that are happening in today's society, mental awareness, and much more. PTSD, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, neurodevelopment disorders(autism & ADHD) are all embodiments of traumatic experiences that have been passed down from generation to generation.
My goal is to share some of the burdens WE ALL face in a great storytelling way that shows empathy and respect to those around us. With these stories and personal experiences, we WILL bring every character to life.
This book is dedicated to my wife, daughter, family, grandad, my brother Jesse Razor and all of my ancestors before me. I love you all.
The graphics, layouts and plot are masterfully crafted by Quinn McGowan. Quinn has the perfect style for this heart-felt comic based on true events. He is the owner and editor in chief of Legends Press Comics, creator of the character "Wildfire” and the story PROJECT: Wildfire. He is also a member of the Operative Network Operative.net. I'm extremely honored to be working with him. I've been working with Quinn on Chronicles of the Black Fist for years now and consider him to be a great friend and mentor.
Jeanelle “Toothbrush Jesus” Jones is a true visionary, her work is defined by its steady focus on storytelling as a way to achieve racial healing by encouraging others to look deeper inside themselves and shamelessly share their own experiences of what it’s like to be Black in America.
We greatly appreciate your support and are excited to get this project into the hands of our backers!
