Christmas 2020 - Fundraiser for Medical Support to Refugees in Lesvos
Calling on all friends,
We will miss our usual Christmas Swim Fundraisers this year due to Covid. However, there are still plenty of opportunities to have fun and do some good at a distance. Will you join us by having fun in the water this Christmas – swim, paddle, float your boat or even your ducks in the bath, dance in the rain in a Covid friendly manner - in your own small family group or bubble at any time over the Christmas holiday season!
We are asking you to help us raise some funds to send to Kitrinos Healthcare - an NGO working on the ground with people seeking refuge in Lesvos, Greece. They support many of those stuck in the camps who are trying to create a better life for their families - they are grannies, grandads, mums & dads, beautiful kids and family members and many unaccompanied children far from their loved ones. They have survived so much on their long, difficult journeys and should be received with respect, rights and support. Sadly this is not the case.
As Christmas gets closer, a time to be with loved ones and to celebrate, constantly on my mind are the people stuck in deplorable conditions in camps on the islands around Greece. Thousands of people are literally living in tents as winter brings the cold and rain. We have seen these conditions first-hand, as have the many Irish medical and non medical personnel who have worked on the ground there over the past number of years with Kitrinos Healthcare. Having borne witness to the difficulties these people face on a daily basis - difficulties that are so cruel and inhumane, and sadly continue to be reality for those who are displaced - I implore you and ask you to stand with all these humans this Christmas and generously support this “Christmas Water Adventure”. Nobody should ever have to live in those conditions and face constant re-traumatisation as they try to reach a place of safety.
By donating a few euros you will be helping Kitrinos to provide much needed medical care and support.
Please pass this on to anybody and everybody – knowing that it will make life a little easier in the tent on the ground. Please continue to highlight the plight facing those seeking refuge and seek change for these people who are so denied justice and equality in the same world we all share.
