Nourishment For The Young
The UK Government recently voted against providing school children who receive Free School Meals (FSM) with food during the half-term and holidays. This is despite the best efforts of footballer Marcus Rashford MBE (Manchester Utd) and thousands of supporters.
You may ask yourself, "why provide free school meals during school holidays?".
The difference here is lockdown and the current Covid pandemic. Low income families have been hit hard. Parents have lost jobs, and have not been able to work.
Now that children are back at school, their families are still struggling due to the additional expenses they incurred during lockdown and new restrictions in place, meaning they will still face difficulties over the 2 weeks Christmas Holidays and beyond.
Red Tower are located in the London Borough of Brent, where levels of deprivation are amongst the highest in the UK. We work with Not for profit organisations and within the creative and cultural industries. Our Social Responsibility is ALWAYS centered around vulnerable children and young people.
We are seeking donors, to raise funds so that we can provide Christmas Meal packs with gifts for children in Brent over the two-week holiday period. We will include long-life foods such as; milk, pasta, tinned fruit, veg, beans and fish.
15 primary schools have already requested our help, and more are approaching us.
The vote MAY be taken to parliament again.
We are not waiting.
How can children be kept waiting anxiously and helplessly?
We will publish our spend and continue the campaign. Even if there is a U-turn, we will donate to other vulnerable groups such as refugees and young people in the social services system.
Our goal is to deliver the packs to the schools before they break up for the Christmas holidays - between the 10th and 18th of December.
