As many of you know and helped with, 300 families received groceries in La Virginia back in 2021 after horrible flooding and destruction. Then in December, MadebyGios raised $300 selling his merch and donated it to me to distribute gifts to the children in Santa Rosa de Cabal during Christmas time. This December 2023, my parents and I along with close friends have planned to use our own money to spread holiday joy to a community that is still in need- the children of La Virginia. We have asked that anyone who wants to gift us anything this Christmas, to donate instead. I decided to create this fund remembering the huge impact made in 2021 with $2,742 USD. As explained 2 years ago, La Virginia is a Colombian municipality in the department of Risaralda. It is located about 23 kilometers by car from the city of Pereira, where I am from. Its terrain is flat to undulating, bathed by the waters of the Cauca and Risaralda rivers and constantly flooded. I have tried to research endlessly for statistics to highlight the high poverty and hunger rate but unfortunately it is not documented. The only report is from 2005 stating that 50% of the city struggles with multidimensional poverty.
All I ask is that if you have ever wondered what the best gift you could give during a holiday season, think about the children that don’t get to open a single one. Genuinely you could put a smile on a child with as little as $6 due to the money conversion to Colombian Pesos. December 11th I land in Colombia will be purchasing the gifts and distributing them to the community December 23 which is when we celebrate Christmas in Colombia. I will be documenting it all like I have in the past. Our goal is to achieve as many smiles as possible. Thank you in advance, I love you all and we could not be more grateful.
