Lizzie - Our Story Behind This Fundraiser
For those who may not know the reason this all came about — in 2001, we tragically lost our beautiful twin daughter Lizzie, at just 15 months old. During that time, the compassionate support of Temple Street’s social-work team provided immense comfort to our family.
In Lizzie’s memory — and with the amazing help of our friends and colleagues at Sherry FitzGerald — we began a toy appeal to support disadvantaged families connected to the hospital. What started small has grown into a cherished annual tradition, bringing light and comfort to many families navigating incredibly difficult times at Christmas.
Why This Matters
For more than two decades, our annual initiative has provided vital support to families whose children are receiving care at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
The hospital’s social-workers are at the heart of this effort — identifying families in need, distributing gift cards, and bringing kindness, relief, and hope when it’s needed most.
You may have seen recent media coverage surrounding Temple Street and Children’s Health Ireland, reflecting serious issues under investigation. I mention this only to acknowledge what’s been in the news — but it’s important to say that none of this should take away from the incredible, everyday work being done by Temple Street’s social-work team.
This appeal isn’t about the headlines.
It’s about families, children, and giving — and about making Christmas a little brighter for those who need it most.
Real Families, Real Impact
Behind every donation is a family like Harry’s, facing enormous challenges with courage and love.
Thanks to your generosity — and the incredible work of Temple Street’s social-work team — families like theirs can find moments of joy and relief at Christmas.

This Year’s Focus
We’re once again collecting gift cards, which give Temple Street’s social-workers the flexibility to help families in the best possible way — whether handing them out in person or posting them to families outside Dublin.
Gift cards from Smyths, Toymaster, and Penney’s are always a big hit!
Recognising that many parents face huge financial pressures while caring for a sick child, Sherry FitzGerald will also provide Tesco food gift cards to 50 families across Ireland. These ensure that families who are really struggling can enjoy Christmas dinner and a proper festive meal together — something many of us take for granted.
By combining toys for children with practical support for parents, we aim to bring both joy and relief this Christmas.
