As a child you are exposed to what most would call the simplest natural progression of life: you fall in love, get married and have children. My husband Chris and I both thought, upon reaching adulthood, that this would never be our path due to our sexual orientation.
You find a sense of loss and grief when you feel that your visions of the future are not what you thought they might be. We live in an area of the country where growing up gay was not as widely accepted as it is today; especially when you have known since you were a child. But, thanks to positive upbringings, we were able to fight through any adversity that came our way.
My sister and I were raised by three very strong women: my mom, my grandmother and my aunt. Chris too was raised by a very strong and pragmatic woman, his mother. My dad was out of the picture when I was only one year of age and Chris’s parents divorced when he was a child. We were both taught to be honest and true to ourselves and others and to value family, friendship and the ever-enduring power of love.
Chris and I have been together for over 10 years, three of which we have been married, and have been through much. And, thanks to some very progressive and persistent folks, Chris and I’s marriage is recognized nationwide, and wish to take that giant leap into parenthood.
We want to adopt so that we may enjoy and treasure the experience of raising a child from birth and instilling them with strong morals and ideals, educate them about the world and universe in which we live and provide an open, honest and secure environment where they are free to be whomever they wish to be.
It is with great passion, understanding and commitment that we submit this application to GoFundMe with the hope to be the best possible parents that we can be...With the help from all of the Fairy Godparents out there.
Adoption expenses can range from $10,000 - 30,000 or more; so anything helps.
Thank you for your help!
