My friend and yours Chris Hoyt, truly needs our help.
I met him 25 years ago when he was one of the original "Utility Men" at Beth's Cafe. Chris was one of the kindest souls that I have ever met, one of the many employees that to this day make up a large, eclectic family.
Chris has been struggling for quite some time and is currently in an Oregon hospital trying to figure out why he has been handed so many battles to fight.
At a time that so many of us are questioning so much about our country, Chris is asking why God seems to be stacking the deck against him.
Saying we'll pray for him lifts his spirits, but it's time that we really help him, beyond a cheerful word on Facebook. Chris' Facebook page chronicles his struggles, not the least of which is intermittant homelessness as he has been battling recurring health issues and challenges getting the care he needs.
I asked him to come up with the courage to tell me what he needs, beyond his medical needs. His answer was simple, a second hand camper van.
Given the last couple of years, I'm guessing that he wants a camper to provide a little stability to his everyday life. What a tremendous relief to know that he has somewhere to be safe and dry every night. Somewhere that is just his to rest and recover. He said at the bottom of his post, "A guy can still dream ;-)"
I am glad that he is still dreaming.
I ask that you consider pitching in as much as you can over the next 30 days to help deliver some help from his extended family. I will make sure that he gets the best option that this money will buy. No matter what the new goverment says about hand outs, they can never keep friends from offering a hand up.
Never Stop Dreaming,
-Shane
