Montclair Village Security Camera Campaign

The New Year's Eve murder of Shuo Zeng shocked and horrified us all. The impact to the Montclair Village community has been massive and while the feelings of grief and anger will stay with us, our community has declared that something must be done to reverse the crime trend and secure our neighborhood. The Montclair Village Association has received numerous calls from the public asking to give to fund more cameras in the Village. A donation to the Montclair Security Camera Program will help us have comprehensive coverage of the commercial district.
Please consider a donation of $500, $100, $50, $25, any amount you can afford, big or small, will add up to a more safe community.
Last year, the Montclair Village Association launched a security camera program to combat crime. We raised over $5,000 from area residents through GoFundMe and with additional funds from the Montclair Village Association, individual Montclair businesses, and a generous grant from the Lucky/ SaveMart CARES Foundation we were able to install high resolution cameras at several key locations throughout the Village. By capturing license plates day and night our security camera program has helped solve numerous crimes. Most notably, our cameras recorded the license plate of the car involved in Shou Zeng's death, within minutes of the incident crystal clear images were provided to law enforcement, which assisted Oakland Police in making the arrest, in less than 24 hours, of two suspects now charged with his murder.
A high resolution, license plate recognition system can cost between $3,000 - $8,000 per location. The goal is the deterrence of crime! AND to provide police with the images and evidence they need to make an arrest and secure a conviction when a crime does occur. Video showing the commission of a crime is often not sufficient to effect an arrest. We aim to identify criminals and make it as easy as possible for law enforcement to do their job.
If you would prefer to make a donation to honor the memory Shou Zeng, the MVA will be working with his family and colleagues to assist in the way they deem most appropriate and will work to communicate that information to the public as soon as a decision is reached.
