Support Chogsia rural community to access clean and safe drinking water 

We have to address the situation where rural folks of Chogsia rural community are dying from water borne diseases. The goal of this project is to drill a hand pump borehole and to raise awareness and instill behavioural change through character building in sanitation and hygiene practices so to improve the sanitation and health conditions of these rural dwellers

Chogsia rural community is located in Wa West District in the Upper West Region of Ghana. It is about 34 kilometers away from. This community has a population of 1,700 people and involved in agriculture production such as rearing of animals and cultivation of crops.


Youth Initiative for Africa Development (NGO)-Ghana is a registered non governmental organisation in Ghana that undertake social invention programes and projects to uplift those who are downtrodden in our communities.

The inhabitants of this community relied on surface waters sources such as streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, dug-outs and impoundment reservoirs and share these water sources with their animals. As a result of drinking these unsafe waters, parasites affect 90% of adults, 100% of children under the age of ten and 90% of infants between zero to two. Diarrhea is very common and affects about 10 % of adults affected, 90% of children under the age of ten and 60% of infants between zero to two. 

Children in this community are often out of school due to these water bodies illnesses and they are more likely to become infected with other diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis etc. In addition, the inhabitant are involved in the indiscriminate disposal of refuses around their surroundings.
