Greeting's from Chloe's Place. It has been a while since I reached out to everyone and I wanted to update you on what has been happening at Chloe's Place. I am happy and proud to let you know that I graduated from Hazelden Betty Ford School of Addiction Studies on April 20th with a "Master of Arts in Addiction Studies: Integrated Recovery for Co-Occurring Disorders"- Granted 4/20/2019.
Now its time to get to work helping those that suffer from alcoholism and addiction issues as well as the co-occurring disorders that almost always accompany a substance abuse issue. Chloe's Place wants to help those that are coming out of treatment with resources and services that they desperately need to stay clean and sober.
Here are some facts that will highlight the size of the substance abuse problem.
-In 2017, an estimated 20.7 million people age 12 and older needed treatment for a substance use disorder. Only 4 million people received treatment, or about 19% of those who needed it.
-In 2017, of the more than 18 million people who needed but did not receive treatment for substance use, only 1 million, or 5.7%, of those people felt they needed treatment.
-Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) has more than 120,000 groups in more than 175 countries around the world, with more than 2 million members.
-There are over 14,500 specialized substance abuse treatment facilities in the United States providing a variety of care options, including counseling, behavioral therapy, medication, case management, and other forms of care.
-The relapse rate for substance use disorders is estimated to be between 40% and 60%. This rate is similar to rates of relapse for other chronic diseases such as hypertension or asthma.
-Addiction is considered a highly treatable disease, and recovery is attainable. About 10% of American adults who are at least 18 years old say they are in recovery from an alcohol or drug abuse issue.
Chloe’s Place announces the “Mulligan” program.
In Golf a mulligan is a “do-over” or second chance after a bad shot. Today you don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy the benefits of a mulligan, a second chance after initial failure. We want to help our fellow recovering alcoholics and drug addicts get a second chance in the game of life starting with the basic needs of housing, transportation and work.
Finding a job in todays environment is difficult for so many and is doubly tough for those of us coming off substance and alcohol abuse and all the damage that the addicted lifestyle has created. I know firsthand what it feels like to not be given opportunities for jobs that I was very qualified for but because of my past I was not considered.
I found that so many people in my life were happy I had survived my addiction to opiates and alcohol but really did not want to have much to do with me. Empathetic indifference is the best way to describe the environment so many recovering alcoholics and drug addicts find once the fog clears and they attempt to get on with their lives. Chloe’s place will attempt to serve those looking for a chance to start over by helping them find safe, affordable housing and fulfilling work.opportunities.
Help us help those new to recovery. We need additional vehicles and funds to provide short term help to these folks. Please reach out to me if you have specific questions about our program at [email redacted] or [email redacted].
Thanks,
Macon
