Chloe's Going Back to Ghana
Donation protected
Over the years, with the help of family and friends, I raised over $35,000 for the United Hearts orphanage and Awutu Bawjiase health clinic. The orphanage used those donations to purchase necessities for the children such as health insurance, beds, clothes, food, shoes, school supplies, and hygiene products. The orphanage also used donations to complete a water distillation project that provides clean drinking water to the community and to purchase supplies for a sustainable mushroom farm initiative.
During my trips to Ghana, I was fortunate to volunteer at the Awutu Bawjiase health clinic, where I witnessed nurses lancing wounds without anesthesia, patients drinking dirty water because they could not afford purified water, and parents pleading for their children to receive treatment knowing they could not pay. My time spent at the health clinic fueled my desire to pursue a career in medicine and to create United for Health, a nonprofit dedicated solely to support my current and future work in Ghana.
Over the years, Dr. Johnson, the main physician at the clinic, used your donations to purchase medical equipment such as pulse oximeter devices, infrared thermometers, suction aspirator machines, fetal doppler and blood pressure machines, and hospital beds for the pediatric ward. She also used donations to treat children suffering from severe malnutrition by providing a high-protein diet and treatment that is not covered by insurance. Your past donations have also helped to fund several infrastructure projects at the clinic. For example, the clinic used donations to completely remodel the Immunization Clinic and Pediatric Ward and to help construct a new Emergency Ward.
This year, at the clinic, I will be focusing my efforts on tackling malnutrition among pregnant women and children in Bawjiase. With the help of Dr. Johnson, I am creating maternal malnutrition education workshops that I plan to host for families to attend while I am in Bawjiase. I am also raising money to purchase additional medical equipment and hospital beds for the new Emergency Ward that will be completed in June. For the orphanage, I am raising money to purchase school supplies, updated health insurance for the children, basic necessities and to continue the room remodeling project I started on my last trip.
I am asking for your continued support this year to reach my fundraising goal of $15,000. Your donation will have a direct impact on the children of United Hearts and on the Bawjiase community by improving the quality and effectiveness of healthcare received at the clinic.
None of this would be possible without you!
Thank you,
Chloe
