On Thursday afternoon I was on facebook and saw a post from a friend back home in Paradise California saying that he and his family have safety evacuated Paradise. I had no idea what was going on so I frantically called my sister Sara and got dead air I quickly called my mothers house and received the same outcome. Over and over I kept calling but no one answered. Finally the news broke that my hometown of Paradise California was on fire. With my heart in my chest I frantically called everyone I could and finally my brother in law Mark Brockman answered. He couldn't find my sister or his daughter, he said all the powers out along with the cell towers in Paradise. His plan was to wait on the road and look for her car. We kept in contact for the rest of the day and finally at 8:30 pm my sister and niece where safe in his arms. My mom, dad and brother had stopped for the night and still had no cell service.
As you have seen from my Facebook posts my family has lost everything in the #CampFire in Paradise and Magalia. My sister Sara, brother in law Mark and their young daughter Jenna Brockman just moved back to the area this past year after being gone for 7 years and purchased their dream home on 5 acres in Magalia. What they know as of right now is Sara's work is gone which means they have lost half of their income, her car was left at our moms house and incinerated by flames, their house status is unknown as of right now because they are unable to get back in to assess anything.
My parents Mark, Mari and brother Marc Manzella have literally lost everything but the clothes on their back. Being life long residents of Magalia this is the only home they have ever known. Their fire insurance policy does not cover provisional housing which leaves my parents living off of their minimal social security to pay for house until their insurance settles and they are able to rebuild and that is estimated by the electric company PG&E to take up to a year before electric is restored.
My heart is breaking for my family back home so i'm turning to my community once more to ask for help. Any amount is greatly appreciates <3
