CALDER FOOD SUPPORT helps people who are struggling to feed themselves, including many households with children, by providing a limited amount of basic food and hygiene products weekly. School holidays can exacerbate food poverty for low-income families in the UK, as school meals are not provided during these periods, leading to "holiday hunger". It is sometimes our elderly service users who find themselves looking after several grandchildren and having to find the extra food to feed them. So we are looking at repeating the very popular 'holiday bag' offer that we provided last year. Familes are given one or more children's bags in addition to their weekly food bag. This provides a cereal bar, box of raisins, fruit juice drink, cheese snack and a piece of fruit to replace their daily school meal. The cost of one bag is about £6. Last year we gave out more than 200 holiday bags. Please help us to keep holiday hunger at bay by donating to our holiday bag kitty. Every donation will help to make the summer holiday a happier one.
