Children of Mexico International supports vulnerable children, youth, and elderly adults in Mexico and other countries by providing evidence-based therapy, education, and essential resources.
Our Story
During one of her trips to Guadalajara, Mexico, California native and experienced speech pathologist Margarita Fajardo had a transformative encounter at an orphanage. There, she met Conchita, a young girl with cerebral palsy who had been abandoned at a city dump.
Conchita’s life took a turn when a garbage collector rescued her and brought her to a home called Bienaventurados de Jesus, which housed 19 other disabled children and young adults.
Encouraged by the resilience of the children’s caretakers, Margarita returned the following year accompanied by other therapists equipped with specialized tools, resources and materials to improve the children’s communication skills.
These yearly trips moved Margarita’s desire and inspired her to create a charity in YEAR, Children of Mexico International, dedicated to providing evidence-based therapy, education, and resources for these children and the elderly in Mexico and other countries.
Where do we work?
In Guadalajara, Jalisco, we provide speech therapy (including Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems) to children in several orphanages.
Formed partnerships with equine therapy centers in Guadalajara, Jiquilpan, Cotija, Sahuayo (Michoacán), and Pachuca (Hidalgo), using horse movement to help children improve strength, posture, and coordination.
We visit a home for abandoned elderly women in Guadalajara, offering companionship, dignity, and emotional support.
