Victorious Daycare in Arusha

Early Childhood Education is a very important part of building any community—however it is even more important here in Tanzania where many children do not even have access to education. Children face many challenges here daily, and although they have rights in place, many children become homeless if they cannot succeed. There are children homeless, and on the streets.
An estimated two million children between the ages of 7 and 13 have no access to primary education in Tanzania; access to preschool education is even lower. There are about 170 children for every qualified teacher. The lack of early education means that children, especially in rural areas, are ill-prepared to start school. The Arusha region is located in northeastern Tanzania. Here, a large number of children live in difficult and poverty-stricken conditions. As their parents have to work during the day in order to earn at least a small living, they are also unable to look after their children.

Victorious Daycare, is just one out of many daycares that need support during this time. It is located in one of the poorest areas of Arusha, so any amount of money donated will help the children here. The children live in the slums, and rely on the daycare for a meal and support. The daycare center is rented, not owned, and often does not receive payment to cover the rent from parents. Many of the children are from single parent families, widows, and very poor communities.
The children’s ages range between 1-6 and the focus is to teach them English, (letters, numbers, etc) so that they can go on to Primary school with the tools they need to succeed.
There is only one teacher for 35 children, and the only help the daycare receives is from volunteers. The children do not have any toys or school supplies. They have paper, pens, and pencils only, and receive porridge for lunch.
Money raised will go to:
  • Food
  • School supplies
  • Toys
  • Paint and cleaning materials
  • A new door and windows
Many of the volunteers have started renovations out of their own pocket to clean up the center through painting, cleaning, and food donations.

If there is anyone who would like to hear more, you can private message me. I am only here for 2 weeks but I would like to provide as much as I can during my stay.
