In 1980 Rachel Sims Parker was born into our world. She was born with a bone marrow disorder and received about a hundred transfusions before she had her bone marrow transplant in Seattle, Washington at The Fred Hutchinson Center. It was a rough few years for our family, but Rachel went on to thrive and create a special life. During her chemotherapy for her transplant we were told that she would never have children, the one thing Rachel wanted the most in this life. Well, in 2002 she surprised everyone with the birth of her first daughter, Kaytlinn Marie. Kayte was the center of attention and a joy to all of us. The miracle baby that no one thought we would receive. Fast track ten years later and surprisingly she is blessed with another little girl, Karen Margaret and then two years later with Olivia Suzanne. Truly gifts from God!
If you knew Rachel you loved her! She loved family, Alabama football and her Lord and Saviour. Her girls were the most important thing to her and she always put them first. She had a dry, witty sense about her that was enjoyed by many.
Rachel was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with metastasizes to the liver on July 5, 2021. Her mother died in 1998 to the same disease when Rachel was just nineteen years old. Rachel received one chemo infusion and passed quietly on the morning of August 8, 2021. She is in the hands of her Saviour and Lord and is finally at peace rejoicing with her mother and grandparents that passed before her. She left behind the love of her life, Chris Parker and their three daughters, Kayte (19), Karen (8) and Olivia (6).
Many family members and friends have reached out to help in so many possible way. I speak for the whole family in expressing our sincere thanks. This account has been set up for the benefit of her children and intended to help offset costs related to their childcare and future education. Any contribution is greatly appreciated. We hope this campaign will be a small token to show Chris, Kayte, Karen and Olivia that they are not alone. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. God bless everyone!
