Chesapeake Virginia VFW's New Home
Donation protected
Dear valued community members,
We appreciate your continued support for The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States, and we're writing to you today with a very special request. We would like to share the story of the Chesapeake VFW SSG Jonathan Killian Dozier Memorial Post 2894 and their new home.
This nonprofit veterans service organization is comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard, and reserve forces. Since the Chesapeake VFW's founding on March 6th, 1996, the VFW has been working tirelessly to support and improve the lives of veterans in the community. However, after 27 years, they have never had a place to call home. That is, until now.
The Chesapeake VFW finally has a home they can call their own. The building was originally a county fire station built in the ’50s when Chesapeake was still Norfolk County. However, the structure needs a significant amount of work to become ADA-compliant and meet the needs of disabled veterans.
This is where your support comes in. We're asking the community and local businesses to come together and support these veterans who have given so much for our country. With your help, we can make the necessary renovations to ensure that the Chesapeake VFW can continue to serve and improve the lives of veterans in the community.
The VFW is an organization that is near and dear to the hearts of many people in our community. They provide a variety of services to veterans, including assistance with VA benefits and pensions, career counseling and job placement, financial assistance, and more. Additionally, they offer a support system for veterans who may be struggling with physical or mental health issues, or who are experiencing homelessness.
By supporting the Chesapeake VFW, you'll be helping to improve the lives of veterans in our community in immeasurable ways. You'll be helping them to access the services they need to thrive and to have a community they can turn to in times of need. You'll be showing them that their service and sacrifice have not been forgotten.
However, the Chesapeake VFW needs more than just financial donations. They need labor and material donations as well to make the necessary renovations and refurbishments to the building. With your help, we can make the necessary repairs to ensure that the building meets the needs of disabled veterans and is a welcoming space for all veterans in the community.
Your labor or material donations can go a long way in helping the Chesapeake VFW reach its goal. Whether you can provide skilled labor, such as plumbing or electrical work, or donate building materials such as lumber or drywall, every little bit helps.
Some of the needed work includes making a bathroom ADA compliant, kitchen appliances, walling off one of the garage doors, ramps throughout the building, flooring, paint, ceiling work, ducting, groundskeeping equipment, plumbing, electrical work, and finally money to buy some basic furnishings for the interior.
The square footage of the building is 4,290 square feet. On the low end, commercial renovations cost $30 per square foot. This building has not been updated for many decades, and some of the systems are obsolete. This renovation project could cost over $100k. These are basic renovation costs, we are not looking for any high-end items or features. Renovations will include flooring, paint, basic kitchen items, servicing of old systems, and making the building ADA-compliant.
We hope you'll consider donating to the Chesapeake VFW SSG Jonathan Killian Dozier Memorial Post 2894. Your contribution will help make a real difference in the lives of those who have bravely served our country. Thank you for your generosity and support.
All donations go directly to the Chesapeake VFW fund. The VFW is a 501(c)(3) Tax exempt organization. For businesses making a donation, mail a check to 3329 Battlefield Blvd South Chesapeake VA 23322.
