Chatsworth Youth Cafe Fundraiser
We are building a Youth Cafe within the church premises to give young people a safe space to socialise and participate in activities, bible studies and workshops. The Cafe will also provide opportunities to discuss social issues affecting youth in our community such as knife crime, drugs, mental health and sexual health, self-worth and belief. The idea of this Cafe was birthed by members of our youth group who will also be given the opportunity to design the Cafe! The Cafe will available to the community as well as the youth. it will open on weekdays, evenings and weekends, and be run by a paid youth worker and a team of volunteers.
WHY A YOUTH CAFE?
Over the last 18 months, young people have faced a particularly challenging time dealing with Covid-19 and lockdowns as well as many social issues. They have seen disruption to education, lack of access to their regular activities and very little support which has had a huge impact on mental wellbeing. For Chatsworth Baptist Church, the new youth hub is a central part of our response to these issues.
Our church is situated in the London borough of Lambeth. Lambeth has the highest rate of gun crime and youth violence amongst all the London boroughs. We know there is a need for more positive youth projects in our area for the young people to have a safe place, a place for those with a desire to grow in their faith and become disciples of Jesus, for those needing positive role models and access to new opportunities.
WHERE WE ARE AT SO FAR:
• Surveyors and Architects will draw up the final plans - COMPLETE
• Fundraising to reach the final stage - ONGOING
• Building work - STARTED
• Building work will be completed - OCTOBER 2021
• Decoration and furnishing will be completed - OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2021
• Youth Café launch event - OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2021
