Chase to Nepal

Donation protected
In mid-February of this year, I am planning to go on a trip to Nepal to help orphaned children. I am writing to you because I need your help.

For those of you that don’t know, my dad, Michael Kyes and his close friend Jason Corbin have been partnering with friends in Nepal, Parsu and Madan, to build a children's home to shelter kids currently under their care. My dad and Jason have brought many people with them on service trips for the past seven years. In addition to designing and building the children’s home (called “Project Refuge”), they have been involved with teaching programs, school and church building, and disaster relief.  In previous years my mom and brother have gone and I look forward to going myself.

I am looking forward to going to Nepal because I want to experience a different culture and learn new things about the lifestyle, food, clothing and the children I will be meeting. If you listen to my dad talk about these children you will realize the difference from kids like me. They are interested in things like dancing, knitting, and reading. These kids aren’t interested in cell phones and the latest video game craze, but in activities that can be acquired using the simplest tools and this brings them joy.  My dad has shared stories about close to thirty children that he has had the opportunity to see grow up over the years including one that has become a teacher and another that has married just last year. He has grown so close with these children that he has earned the nickname, “Kaka” which translates to uncle, which makes me their cousin and I can’t wait to meet my extended family on the other side of the world.

In Nepal, Christians are persecuted even as they serve and sacrifice for the neediest around them.  So-called “mission trips” are usually seen as introducing the Gospel into a culture that is in need of hearing it.  In our case, we are partnering with our brave Nepali friends to encourage and strengthen their efforts.

I have created a GoFundMe site to help me raise money for travel expenses and gifts for the kids.  Any extra funds received will be donated to the building fund for Project Refuge.
