Charlo Greene, marijuana activist and former tv news anchor, is currently facing 10 felonies and four misdemeanors carrying a 54 year prison sentence for operating the Alaska Cannabis Club. These charges coming over a decade after the passage of legal medical marijuana and a year after the the passage of legal recreational marijuana in Alaska.
The Alaska Cannabis Club was the first organization in Alaska to help connect legal medical patients with safe access, as prescribed by their Alaskan doctors and written into Alaskan law. After several unwarranted raids by the state that took place after the implementation of legal recreational marijuana in Alaska, the club was forced to close its doors to its patients.
Charlo is set to go on trial October 15th 2018, in Anchorage Alaska. Nearly 4 years after the charges were filed and after the state hired away 3 of her lawyers, she has a strong defense team. However the trial will potentially cost upwards of $30k in the hopes to save Charlo from spending the rest of her life in jail for standing up for the forgotten and disenfranchised when no one else would.
Every dollar donated will go 100% towards the legal defense of Charlo Greene. If we are able to raise more money than is needed for her trial, we plan to use at extra funds as a seed to start the Charlo Greene Foundation.
The Charlo Greene Foundation will collect donations to go directly to the legal defense of wrongfully arrested and in-prisoned nonviolent marijuana “criminals” around the country. Every day innocent people are in-prisoned or given unfair jail sentences solely because they can’t afford proper representation. People are losing their lives because they can’t afford a decent lawyer, the Charlo Greene Foundation will help save as many people as possible.
On July 17th 2018, Charlo will be releasing her must read memoir:“F*ck It: A Guide to Letting Go & Living Free” in which she covers all aspects of the case against her, creating the Alaskan Cannabis Club, as well as her journey through life as a first generation Nigerian American.
