Help Charley get a break away after Motobike Accident
Donation protected
Hi, I am reaching out on behalf of our family after my nephew, Charley, was involved in a serious motorbike accident on 2nd April 2025. He was riding home from work, a route he takes every week, however on this occasion he would be involved in an accident. Sadly he came off his bike and impacted a pole, taking the full force to his side causing instant life changing injuries.
Thankfully friends who he works with were travelling the same route and saw the accident and called the emergency services immediately. Air Ambulance also attended site. Charley was not stable enough to travel by air ambulance, however the two doctors travelled with him in the ambulance to John Radcliffe. They all helped save his life.
At the hospital my sister got a brief moment with Charley who was scared and in severe pain. She was handed a bag from the paramedics of her son’s jewellery and then he went and the long wait started as he was rushed into surgery.
Charley who is only 18 was in surgery for hours having life saving operations by specialist surgeons. We were informed he had a collapsed lung, he had his spleen and left kidney removed and his pancreas was badly injured. He was in an induced coma and the next 48 hours would be critical.
I am pleased to say he is a fighter and the next 48 hours in intensive care were tough but he showed positive signs. It was a relief to see him coming out of the coma.
We were told it is now very much a day to day plan and he would have good and bad days. Charley spent 6 weeks in intensive care and was then relocated to a Ward. We still move day to day.
The challenges Charley faces are not just physical but also his mental health and well being. With the severity of his injuries it is taking time for his body to recover, with bad days of infections and increased heart rate, back in for surgery, on/off the ventilator and then good days where he can eat, drink and finally get out of bed and walk the ICU.
This brings me to why we would love to raise funds for Charley. He has missed so much whilst being in hospital and we now look forward to him being home and recovering. The accident also impacted on life back home with his 15 year old brother Connor missing him and wanting him well. His mother has spent every day at the hospital supporting Charley, missing time with Connor and just having passing moments when she's home.
It has been such a traumatic time for Charley and when he is well enough to travel comfortably it would be wonderful for Charley, his brother and mum to enjoy a break away in the UK somewhere that offers beautiful views and a peaceful place to relax and have some quality time together. Get back the time lost in hospital and recovering at home. It would be great to book a caravan park with accessible/disabled access to give Charley the best chance to rest, be mobile to local places when they can and just enjoy some good family time.
Any donation will make a difference and if you can't contribute financially, sharing this page would also mean the world to us. Thanks x
