Charles needs a new heart

Dear friends and family,

My brother, Stéphane Boudreault, and sister-in-law Adèle Mitrow, recently learned that their 3-year-old son, Charles, will require a heart transplant at the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital.

He had been frequenting the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) over the last several months, eventually being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. His condition had worsened and he is now hospitalized at Sick Kids in Toronto until a viable heart donor is found.

Laurent, Charles’ older brother, is in senior kindergarten and has also had a challenging fall with his parents and brother frequently visiting the hospital, sometimes for weeks on end. He will continue his school year at home in Ottawa, with the help of his grandparents, family, and friends, but the road for the entire family will be long and difficult as they wait for a heart for Charles, which could take months to over a year, and then have him undergo the surgery and recovery in Toronto.

We are all confident that Charles will pull through all this—he is a strong kid who at 3, has already faced all this medical intervention with amazing strength, courage, and smiles. We are all very proud of him and know he will live a healthy and full life.

We have created a gofundme to help support Charles and his family with:

Stéphane and Adèle will be traveling back and forth, taking turns staying with Charles in Toronto and offering Laurent some stability in Ottawa. Stéphane will continue to work, but will need to travel on weekends to help Adèle with Charles. She will also need to return to Ottawa now and then to support Laurent. Fortunately, they found accommodations at the wonderful Ronald McDonald House near the hospital, however, these unanticipated expenses will be challenging.

Your help would be greatly appreciated during this difficult time. They are coping with amazing strength, grace, and resilience, but we are hoping to relieve at least a small portion of the stress and uncertainty this situation has brought to their family.

Charles a besoin d'un nouveau cœur

Chers amis et famille,

Mon frère Stéphane Boudreault et ma belle-sœur Adèle Mitrow ont récemment appris que leur fils de 3 ans, Charles, aura besoin d'une transplantation de cœur à l'hôpital Toronto Sick Kids.

Il a fréquenté le centre hospitalier pour enfants de l'est de l'Ontario (CHEO) au cours ces derniers mois et a finalement reçu un diagnostic de cardiomyopathie dilatée. Son état s'est aggravé et il est maintenant hospitalisé à Sick Kids, à Toronto, jusqu'à ce qu'un donneur de cœur viable soit trouvé.

Laurent, son grand frère, est en jardin et a également eu un automne difficile tenant compte que la famille se rendait fréquemment à l'hôpital, parfois pendant des semaines. Il poursuivra son année scolaire à Ottawa, avec l'aide de ses grands-parents, sa famille ses amis, mais la route pour toute la famille sera longue et difficile dans l'attente d'un cœur pour Charles, ce qui pourrait prendre des mois et au-delà d’une année, suivi d’une chirurgie et une convalescence à Toronto.

Nous sommes tous convaincus que Charles s'en sortira - c'est un enfant fort qui, à 3 ans, a déjà affronté des interventions médicales avec courage, force, et des sourires incroyables. Nous sommes tous très fiers de lui et savons qu'il vivra une vie saine et pleine.

Nous avons créé un gofundme pour aider à soutenir Charles et sa famille avec :

Stéphane et Adèle prendront des tours à voyager entre les deux villes afin d’appuyer Charles à Toronto et offrir une certaine stabilité pour Laurent à Ottawa. Stéphane continuera à travailler, mais devra voyager les fins de semaine pour aider Adèle avec Charles. Elle devra aussi retourner à Ottawa de temps en temps pour soutenir Laurent. Heureusement, ils ont trouvé un logement dans le magnifique au Ronald McDonald House près de l'hôpital, mais ces dépenses imprévues seront difficiles à gérer.

Votre aide serait grandement appréciée pendant cette période difficile. Ils affrontent ce défi avec force, grâce et une résilience incroyable, mais nous espérons minimiser les pressions et l'incertitude que cette situation leur a apportées.
