Non-profit initiative by Tamil youth focused on Sri Lanka

Donation protected
This year, King's College London Tamil Society is hosting its 12th annual non-profit show, Kings of Gaana, the biggest interuniversity kuthu dance competition, and has chosen Aram Initiative as the chosen charity!

All donations will be going towards Aram Initiative so please donate as much as you can!

Living in the UK we realise the opportunities and privileges that we have and in doing so acknowledge that many communities across Sri Lanka are not presented with such opportunities.

About Aram Initiative
The Aram Initiative, started in 2023, a non-profit organisation, seeks to bridge the gap between the diaspora and our motherland. We uncover and nurture potential in Sri Lanka through a youth-led platform that facilitates discovery, knowledge exchange, and sustainable development solutions.

Our three-part system involves annual trips to Sri Lanka to understand and deliver immediate aid, combined with research and long-term initiatives to address the challenges identified. While we have successfully completed our annual trips, we are currently building and implementing the research and long-term initiatives.

Aims:
  • Bridge the diaspora with Sri Lanka through meaningful engagement.
  • Change perceptions of the homeland through direct involvement in volunteering and participation in uplifting projects.
  • Empower local communities to develop sustainable solutions.
  • Utilise diaspora expertise to address complex challenges.

Key Achievements:
  • Delivered the first known healthcare camp in the Maskeliya tea estate area.
  • Conducted business and IT workshops for students, including sessions on business ideas, ChatGPT, and basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Taken 43 volunteers to Sri Lanka over 2 years, with applications from more than 8 countries.
  • Worked with 26 different locations, providing targeted donations and running workshops.
  • Begun our digital connection project through the launch of a virtual mentorship scheme with a girls’ home.
  • Repaired a water tank in Ohiya, providing clean water to pre-school students after 10 years.
