Challenge development on Maynooth Rd

Donation protected
As residents of Crodaun we are faced with a challenge .  Lands adjacent to Crodaun are to be developed for housing.  One development opposite the two entrances to Crodaun is being submitted for approval to An Bord Pleanala under the legislation for Strategic Housing Development (SHD). Bord Pleanala wants density at the expense of the impact on the sustainability and quality of life of Crodaun and Celbridge residents .  Road frontage of five and six story apartments and 416 dwelling units is wrong for this suburban location on the edge of the heritage town of Celbridge.  Additional population and traffic will put pressure on the existing infrastructure and make it impossible without traffic lights on the Crodaun entrances to enter and exit at peak traffic times.

We fight this by joining together and submitting submissions that oppose . The most effective way is to challenge it because it offends against good planning and planning legislation. For that we need to hire expertise. One resident has committed to paying an experienced Planning Consultant who has challenged bad planning like this before. The consultant that will bring expertise to strengthen the submission to Bord Pleanala is David Armstrong.

The cost is estimated to be €3500 approx.  The resident is prepared to pay it but why should this retired person have to meet the full costs of what is a battle we all need to win. Already individual residents have pledged financial support varying from €40 to €150 .  This Fund Me Initiative can provide a means by which other residents can contribute.

The funds used will be accounted for and details of expenditure circulated to all residents in Croduan after the Bord has made a decision.

We have made our homes in Celbridge. We have established our families and our homes in Crodaun. We welcome others who wish to make their homes here and we dont object to new housing . We do object to housing developments driven by density levels that are four times greater that the planned development of Kildare County Council , that are realised through high rise apartment blocks changing the gateway suburban area of Celbridge , dominating Crodaun and surrounding bungalow estates like Castle Village. We do object to development that places severe pressure on public transport, schools, water and drainage, electricity supplies and traffic . The size of this development along with another development on the Interchange does just that.

Sustainable development should be the benchmark for all development in Celbridge .  Infrastructure to support development must be in place before such development begins.
