Hi my name is jack and I suffer from an extremely rare life threatening condition called Diamond Blackfan anaemia. This means that I do not produce any of my own red blood cells and have to have a blood transfusion every 3 weeks just to stay alive! As a result of the blood transfusions I also have iron overload on my organs which could ultimately be fatal, this means I have to have a needle which is attached to a pump put into the tissue in my leg every night to release the iron from my body, this is very painful and has complications of its own. I also have regular bone marrow tests and MRI scans to keep an eye on my iron and blood levels. We are raising money to help towards travel costs, parking and overnight stays for my hospital appointments as I regularly have to travel to St Mary’s hospital in London, each trip can cost my family up to £500 a time. There is no known cure for my condition and its extremely rare, so it’s very important I make these trips to get the specialised care I require!
Please help me raise anything you can towards my hospital appointments and towards DBA UK. Any small amount would really help, and any monies raised over our target will be donated to DBA UK research. Thanks x
