My name is Knyla, and I have created this GoFundMe on behalf of my mother and my 4 siblings, whom I have been financially supporting since throughout 2025 while
working and attending school full time.
My 10-year-old brother, who has Type 1 Diabetes, had his condition mishandled multiple times by a school nurse. On November 25th, his blood sugar dropped to a critical 33 mg/dL after being given the wrong dosage of 16 units of insulin, requiring an emergency ambulance transport.
We discovered that the school district was following a dangerous policy: waiting until a child is unconscious before calling 911.
Prior to this incident, the staff of the school, including the nurse, were made aware of concerns regarding my brother's care.
On December 4th, the school held a meeting with my mother in attendance, as well as the school nurse, principal, school district's director of nursing, director of student services, and a contracted partner from a local hospital. This meeting was not used to make my brother safer at school but caused the decision to unenroll him and our other brother out of fear of retaliation.

In addition to this situation, they have been experiencing homelessness since December of 2024 from job loss due to illness. Recently as of January 21st my mother has also had to be hospitalized due to her health conditions, which have worsened from stress. She has an unknown growth/swelling on her face and is experiencing Lupus flares. Additionally she now has an unknown infection causing sepsis. She now has to have 2 biopsies.
We have claims of extreme negligent behavior from a school district local to Indianapolis and Lawrence, Indiana, as well as a major hospital network. There actions took away the little stability my brothers had.
I am asking for funds to pursue legal action against both parties to hold them accountable as well as help lift my family out of a bad situation.
The donations will firstly go towards housing security, needs such as food, clothes, and other basic necessities.
All donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Knyla
