Help Us Honor WWII Hero Ceo Bauer and His Legacy
Objective: $5,000 to bring a 102-year-old WWII hero, Ceo Bauer, back to France for a series of tribute events and commemorations.
Introduction:
We need your help to get this incredible WWII veteran, Ceo Bauer, back to France. Ceo, a 102-year-old hero who served with the 95th Infantry Division, will be honored at a variety of events, including a tribute ceremony, a documentary screening, and a plaque dedication to his fallen comrade.
Ceo was one of the stars of the award-winning documentary The Girl Who Wore Freedom, and this journey will allow him to return to France to honor his role in liberating the country, recognize his fallen friends, and share his personal story with future generations.
The Journey:
Ceo’s trip to France will be filled with important events, tributes, and personal connections, including:
A Rendez-vous with History in the Loir Valley (May 30-31) – This event will include a ceremony at the train station where General Pétain capitulated to Hitler. Descendants of the Allied leaders—including Churchill, De Gaulle, Leclerc, and George Patton—will be in attendance, as well as a Holocaust survivor and resistance fighter who will receive the French Legion of Honor.
Welcome Dinner in Camp Grand Maisy (June 2) – Hosted by the town of Camp Grand Maisy in Normandy, Ceo will be honored with a special dinner.
Visit to Carentan’s School and Remembrance Talk (June 3) – Ceo will visit students at l’école des Roseaux in Carentan and give a talk in remembrance of his childhood friend, Howard Berry, at the chapel in St. Lo, France, near where Howard sacrificed his life during the battle for France.
Meeting with the USAF Air Mission Command Team (June 3) – Ceo will meet with the USAF Air Mission Command Team responsible for flying all commemorative flights over Normandy during the D-Day 81 commemorations. As a thank-you, Ceo will be treated to a flight in a commemorative C-130 over the beaches of Normandy!
Remembrance Bowl: 101st vs. 82nd Airborne Division (June 4) – Ceo will be the veteran of honor at this historic event in Sainte Marie du Mont, Normandy. The Remembrance Bowl is a unique tribute, marking the historic rivalry and brotherhood between the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. The game is a celebratory event where current and former service members come together in remembrance, with a special focus on honoring the sacrifices made during D-Day and beyond. This event serves as a powerful way to connect modern-day veterans with the legacy of their predecessors, with Ceo being honored as the veteran of the day.
Remembrance Ceremony for Capt. Richard Winters and Easy Company (June 5) – Ceo will attend the ceremony honoring the legendary 101st Airborne Division and their role in the liberation of Brecourt Manor.
International Liberation Ceremony at Utah Beach (June 6) – Ceo will participate in the official International Liberation Ceremony at Utah Beach.
Tributes in Trévières (June 7) – Although the town will not have a formal liberation ceremony this year, Ceo will take part in a special screening of The Girl Who Wore Freedom, followed by a Q&A session, and a plaque dedication ceremony to honor his fallen friend, Steve Bodner.
Guided Tour of Omaha Beach (June 9) – Ceo will lead a guided tour of his first day on Omaha Beach in September of 1944 with the 95th Division.
