Stop the Rezoning: Protect Our Residential Neighborhood
Dear Supporters,
We, the residents of Aberdeen and the neighborhood surrounding Center St., have come together in response to a concerning development proposal that could significantly impact our community.
The Issue at Hand:
The township is considering the implementation of a new "INS Zone" allowing for the expansion of a non-profit private school, laying the groundwork for the construction of dormitories and apartments, within our peaceful residential area.
The Impact on Our Community:
While we understand the need for progress and development, we believe this proposal could have unintended consequences for our neighborhood. The potential strain on our infrastructure, increased traffic, and changes to the character of our town are causes for concern. Additionally, the potential loss of nearly $600,000 in property tax revenue could impact the financial stability of our community.
The Injustice of Spot Zoning:
This rezoning effort raises questions about fairness and community representation. While the proposed expansion of the non-profit private school may have noble intentions, we must ensure that the voices and concerns of all residents are heard and respected.
Our Stance on Development:
We want to make it clear that our opposition is not against development as a whole, but rather against the inappropriate development within residentially zoned areas. We firmly believe in responsible development that respects the integrity of our neighborhoods and adheres to zoning regulations. We support the idea of development in more appropriate zones that are better equipped to handle such projects without detriment to our community.
Our Plan of Action:
In response to this proposal, we are actively working to gather support and resources. We aim to secure the representation of a seasoned land use attorney who can help us navigate the legal complexities of this issue. Additionally, we will enlist the assistance of an independent planner to provide valuable expertise in the planning aspect of our opposition efforts.

We are committed to protecting the integrity of our residential neighborhoods. Our opposition extends beyond Center St. to any residentially zoned area in our town facing similar threats. It's worth noting that a similar attempt was made on Meinzer St. in 2017, and with the support of the community, it was successfully blocked. By joining forces and rallying support, we can draw from that success and send a powerful message that the interests of our community cannot be disregarded for the sake of expansion.
