FLORENCE WILLIAMS LEGACY
Honoring the Legacy of Florence Williams
At a time when segregation denied African Americans equal access to healthcare, Florence Williams, an African American woman, opened doors where none existed.

In 1925, Florence Williams founded a hospital serving Black citizens in Georgetown, South Carolina — becoming a symbol of courage, compassion, leadership, and healing during the height of segregation in the American South.

Her work brought dignity, healing, and hope to countless families who once had limited access to medical care and dignity.

One hundred years later, her story is finally receiving the statewide recognition it deserves.
The South Carolina Department of Archives and History has officially approved a South Carolina Historical Marker for the Florence Williams Hospital in Georgetown County.

Now, we are asking the community to help us permanently preserve and honor her story for future generations.

Your support will help fund:
• Official Historical Marker Installation
• Florence Williams Legacy Ceremony & Banquet
• Student Scholarships in her honor
• Printed Programs, Memorial Materials & Event Costs.

This is more than a monument — it is proof that her story mattered.
It is a permanent reminder that service, sacrifice, courage, and community impact should never be forgotten.
Florence Williams’ legacy opened doors, inspired lives, and planted seeds that still grow today. With your support, future generations will know her name, understand her impact, and continue the work she started.

Every donation — large or small — helps preserve an important piece of Georgetown County and South Carolina history.
Together, we are not just honoring history… we are making sure it is never forgotten.
Thank you for helping preserve a legacy that changed lives and opened doors for generations to come.
