There are some people you meet in life that will change it forever, but very few will ever know their name or ever hear their story. The unsung heroes. They are the ones who serve and pray when no one is watching; they give tirelessly of themselves with no need for applause and no recognition; they love and care for others as their own without any trumpets or even anyone else ever seeing. One of these unsung heroes entered our lives almost three years ago and as her 75th birthday approaches on February 20th, we wanted to take a minute to introduce you to her too… meet Miss Mary. She’s family now and forever.

By the grace and provision of God, Miss Mary was our sons’ (Micah and Zion) foster mother for 3 years prior to coming to us. Not only were our boys blessed by this amazing woman and her care, but over 300 other children she has fostered have been too! Yes, that’s right, over 300!!!

Miss Mary began her fostering journey in 1985. It all began when she and her son were watching TV and he would see foster child commercials come on and say, “Mom, I want to play with him!”. She told herself she’d try it out one day. Eventually, she went through all of the paperwork, sent it in and then forgot about it until months later when they sent her a letter asking if she was still interested in fostering! She thought, “After all this time?”, but decided to go through with the process and her first two children were placed with her (a brother and sister sibling set) then shortly after, their newborn sister came. That was 40 years ago and the rest, they say, is history!

In our son Micah’s words, “Of all of my foster parents, she was the only one that really cared about me.”

The impact one person can have on so many lives is astounding and Miss Mary’s life and the ripple effects she has had are nothing short of a miracle.

In honor of her and all she has done, we want to surprise her for her 75th birthday by blessing her financially. Not only is she still fostering 5 children, she also cares for and visits her mother every day! She has never asked for anything and not only that but she is the one that has blessed us!

This beautiful woman deserves to be celebrated and we truly can’t thank you enough for considering to join us in doing so in this way!
