Remembering Jeff Douglass in the Port Townsend Leader
Donation protected
Our friend Jeff Douglass passed away nearly seven years ago, but never received a proper obituary in the Port Townsend Leader, the paper of record for the city of Port Townsend.
This is a historic injustice!
Jeff Douglass lived in PT from 1979 through 2016. He brought joy, humor, compassion and hundreds of hours of selfless energy in support of friends, neighbors, publicans and recording artists in the community.

Obituary
During the past several months I have interviewed family members and friends, and have brought my own personal experience to draft an obituary of nearly 800 words that I will submit to the Port Townsend Leader to align with his upcoming October 5 birthday. The total cost of this submission is estimated to be approximately $600 including submission costs, taxes and GoFundMe fees.
A couple of interesting factoids about Jeff:
- Worked on Cold War-era rocket programs
- Was a flight instructor in Lake Tahoe
- Was an accomplished photographer
- Was an admired painter
- Helped to record the first CD of Scottish-Gaelic original songs (Mill a h-Uile Rud)
- Had a steady stream of Mark Twain quotes at the ready
Any amount of help is much appreciated!
Also, please share your thoughts and memories in the comments and I will use that to produce a larger online piece with more photos and links to music and interviews and memories in honor of this great man.

To learn a bit more, here's a podcast I recorded with him just before he died: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/in-memoriam-jeff-douglass/id1002974958?i=1000379463338
