Cesar's fight for family against unjust ICE detention

My name is Cesar Ocampo Giron I’m 22 at the time of this, and I am reaching out to share a difficult situation that has deeply affected my family. On Tuesday, February 25th—while returning from work—my stepfather, Marco Agundis, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

For over 16 years, Marco has been a steadfast part of our family. He came into our lives during a challenging time for my mother and for me, taking on not only our struggles but also the responsibilities of a loving father to me and my siblings who are today are 15, 12, 5, and 3 years old. In 2011, he pursued legal pathways to citizenship by working with immigration lawyers, completing what he thought were the necessary programs, and fulfilling all the requirements of life in this country. He has consistently paid his taxes, maintained a union roofing job for over a decade, have a house and vehicles in his name and while raising his family with unwavering dedication.

Imagine returning home after a long day at work—only to be told that your records have been lost and that you never complied with the proper procedures. Though the government may view his case through a narrow legal lens and be doing in they’re eyes what’s right for the country to us, Marco is a man who has worked hard, cared for his family, and contributed to our community. Not another Immigrant who came to this country to ruin it or take advantage of government help His detention is not just a financial setback; it is a profound injustice that has torn our family apart.

We are not seeking to challenge the actions of the government outright; we are simply asking for a chance—a chance for Marco to remain with his wife and children and continue his life as the responsible, hardworking man he has always been even it it’s just him being heard, His story is not unique; many families across the nation right now face similar struggles and worries.
